The first ever African Idol competition in Germany will be held on the 15th of December, 2012 in the City of Hamburg at Bidermannplatz 19. The contestants range from age 14 thru 26. This competition is targeted towards talented young singers, musicians, rappers and performers of African origin based here in Germany.
The overall winner stands a chance to win a substantial amount of cash and an experience of a life time in musical entertainment before a huge crowd. The winners will be selected by the total number of votes they receive. There are three categories of voting. Online voting, Judges Vote, and the Audience voting. The votes will be counted at the end of the show and the three contestants with the most votes, will be selected and crowned accordingly.
TopAfric was fortunate enough to attend the first rehearsal and witnessed these talented young individuals perform their various songs. TopAfric also took the opportunity to interview each contestant and ask various questions about them and their talents.
African Idol Contestant Celine
TopAfric: Hello young lady, could you please tell us your name and how young you are?
Celine: I go by Celine Love and I am 16yrs old
Topafric:Where are you from and how long have you been in Germany?
Celine:Well, I was born in Hamburg, but my mum is American, and my dad is Jamaican.
TopAfric: So I guess that would make you a German, American and Jamaican....lol....
Celine: lol.....I guess so
Topafric: What genre of music would you say influences your style?
Celine: I would have to say all genres. As a Guitar player and songwriter, I draw inspiration from all genres (R&B, Pop, Hip Hop, Jazz, Soul etc).
TopAfric : Who is your Favorite artist?
Celine : LOL!!!! Alot of people wont admit these, but I love Micheal Jackson, the King of Pop.
TopAfric: What are your favorite Hobbies?
Celine: I would have to say dancing.
TopAfric: You mother is Love Newkirk the famous T.V Host/Singer, How would you say she has influenced your musical career?
Celine: Mum is such an inspiration. Her criticism and push is what has helped me grown both as a person and as a musician. Although she can be a bit hard on me sometimes, I completely see why.....lol...
TopAfric: Why are you competing in African Idol Germany?
Celine I want to have fun, I want to perform for people and see how they respond to my performance. But most importantly I want to hear people's constructive criticism on how I can be better. The money is just icing on the cake..lol
